MediDesk reminders are one-way notifications. There is no "reply YES to confirm" step for patients to get wrong, and no inbox of text replies for your staff to monitor.

If a patient needs to change a booking, they do what they already do naturally: phone the practice. The AI Receptionist answers, even after hours, finds the booking, reschedules it, and the updated appointment triggers a fresh confirmation SMS. The loop closes itself.

Credits & cost

Every plan includes monthly SMS credits.

Credits cover booking confirmations, appointment reminders, payment requests and patient messages. Each SMS segment uses one credit, and a segment is up to 159 characters, so longer messages use more than one credit. Monthly included credits are used first; top-up bundles are consumed only after they run out.

If credits run out, messages show as unsent and can be retried once credits are restored, nothing disappears silently.

SMS reminder FAQ.

Can patients reply to the reminder?
No, reminders are one-way notifications. If a patient needs to confirm a detail, cancel or reschedule, they phone the practice. The AI Receptionist can handle that call directly, update the calendar, and an updated confirmation SMS goes out automatically.
Can we control when reminders are sent?
Yes. Reminder timings are configurable per practice, for example a reminder the day before plus one on the morning of the appointment. Once set, every booking follows your schedule automatically.
What happens if an SMS fails to deliver?
Failed sends surface in the dashboard immediately, linked to the appointment they belong to. Staff can see exactly which patient did not get a reminder and phone them before the appointment, instead of finding out via a no-show.
What number do the messages come from?
Messages are delivered from a standard SMS number via MediDesk | not from your practice's phone line. The message text tells the patient which practice the appointment is with.
Do unused SMS credits roll over?
Monthly included credits reset each billing cycle and do not carry over. Top-up credits purchased in-app expire 30 days after purchase and are only consumed after your monthly credits run out.
Is the AI Receptionist required for SMS reminders?
No. SMS confirmations and reminders are part of every core MediDesk plan and work for any booking in the calendar, however it was created. The AI Receptionist is an optional add-on that answers the phone, bookings it makes get the same automatic SMS flow.
